Buyer's Guide
A Memory Book Or A Memory Set?
Years ago, if you were looking for a memory book, that is all you would be able to find, a simple book to hold your pictures. Nowadays, however, you can get whole memory sets.
These sets come with a variety of memory making components that you might want to check out if you are looking for some more ways to celebrate your memories tangibly. These might include:
Scrapbooking Supplies – Not only will you be able to keep your photos nice and organized with these supplies, but you can also add your own personal flair to it as well.
Taking the time to personalize your memories will really make them pop out at you in the future when you feel like reminiscing.
Inkpads for Hand/Footprints – Nothing, and I mean nothing, screams baby like their little fingers and toes! Why not take the time to memorialize them with a hand or footprint.
Plaster – Some sets, if you are feeling really adventurous, also come with plaster that you can mix together and press your baby’s foot or hand into to create a permanent casting of their tiny features.
Just think of how nice it will be to be able to hold their little hand even when they have grown up.
What To Keep In Mind When Buying A Memory Book
Let’s say that you don’t want to go through all those steps and just want the best baby memory book out there to organize your baby’s important milestones. If that is the case, here is what you need to keep in mind when you are shopping around.
Picture Size – Obviously, the most important thing to put into these memory books are all of the great photos that you have of your little ones as they grow.
Take the time to make sure that the book that you want to purchase has the right size slots for your pictures or make sure you print your pictures out in a format that will fit your book to ensure that they fit properly.
Number Of Pictures – If you are anything like me you don’t just have a few photos of your babies, or even a few hundred. I literally have tens of thousands of photos that I could put into these books and have filled several already.
If that sounds like you, be sure to get books that have a large photo capacity, or you’ll end up having to keep some of your favorites on the outside looking in.
Conversely, if you don’t have quite as many photos, don’t waste your time with a great big memory book when a smaller one will do just fine.
Note Taking Area – Now, photos are great and everything, but they certainly aren’t everything. When I look back on my own baby book that my mother put together, oh how I wish that there had been a note taking section so I would know who is in the photos with me and what we were doing.
You might think that you’ll remember, but don’t kid yourself. Years down the road you’ll wish you had written down the important information if you don’t do it now.
Milestones Section – Yet another important section that I wish my personal books would have had. Since they lacked one, however, lots of my important details are missing, like my first word and when I took my first steps.
Thankfully, you can now get memory books with these sections built right in, making it easy to jot down all the big milestones that your kid achieves.
Design – This one is up to personal preference, whether you are purchasing your baby book before you actually have your baby, and whether you know the sex of the baby.
There really is no limit to some different designs that you can find out there on the market today. They have everything for every taste, from pinks for girls, blues for boys, and every gender neutral color you could ever think of.
Top Five Baby Memory Books - Updated
1. Baby Book - First Year Baby Memory Book Set
The Good: If you are someone who likes to be organized and you’d like to savor every little detail of your child’s infancy, then this set is for you! As you can see, it has everything you’ll need to keep track of all the achievements and memories that your little one will go through in the first few years of their life.
I especially love the how much room there is to write down all of your memories. As I mentioned above, I am a bit sore that my own childhood memories and milestones have been lost to the ether of time, and this keepsake set will make sure that that doesn’t happen for your baby!
The Bad: The only problem that I have with this otherwise awesome set is the fact that the ink pad is a bit cheap. If you intend to use it, you’ll have to moisten the ink first, as it is somewhat dried out when you first open it up. You could also just find another ink pad instead and save yourself the hassle of trying to moisten this one.
The Long and Short of It: This just might be the best baby memory book out there! It is extremely detailed, making it simple and easy to keep track of all your baby’s achievements. Just be sure to use the ink pad carefully, or to replace it with another one that you would have to purchase separately.
2. First Year Baby Memory Book & Baby Journal
The Good: If you or someone you know is going to be having a little boy shortly, then this would be a great memory book to purchase! It has tons of space for notes and to record milestones and achievements, all the way up through the first five years of life.
I also absolutely adore the designs in this book, as I am a big nature lover. If you look inside, you’ll find a wide array of forest animals that are sweetly illustrated. They look like they just can’t wait to hear about your little one’s adventures!
The Bad: While there is a lot to like with this memory book, I don’t really like the size of the picture slots. They are designed to fit Instagram photos, which means that they are 4 x 4’s. While this might be ok for some moms who are more modern than me, I personally prefer 4 x 6’s or 5 x 7’s.
The Long and Short of It: This book is a great choice for parents of a little boy who want to keep good track of milestones and achievements and don’t mind the 4 x 4 picture slots.
3. C.R. Gibson First 5 Years Memory Book
The Good: I have noticed that a lot of new moms don’t want to know the sex of their babies before they are born. I like surprises as much as the next person, but I also like to plan ahead, which is why, if you are in that kind of a situation, I would recommend that you get a unisex memory book. That way, you’ll be covered regardless of the gender of your baby.
This book has tons of great places for pictures (4 x6, yay!) and notes taking. I especially like the fact that it has pages for the first five birthdays of your kid’s life. That way, you’ll be sure to remember every little detail with ease.
The Bad: While this book has plenty of space for writing, it somewhat lacks in places for pictures. You can only fit a few on each page, which could be a real problem for someone (like me!) if you take a lot of pictures.
The Long and Short of It: This unisex memory book is a great way to memorialize your baby’s milestones, though I wish it had more space for pictures.
4. Our Baby Girl Memory Book
The Good: This memory book is perfect for memorializing the first five years of your baby girl’s life. It has tons of space for note taking and has dedicated spots where you can record different milestones.
The Bad: The picture sizes are kind of tough to figure out on this one, as a lot of the spaces are not rectangular or square, but, instead, are circular. You might have a tough time printing pictures to fit these spaces correctly.
The only other option is to print the pictures out normally and then trim them to a circle with a pair of scissors or hole punch.
The Long and Short of It: Beautiful looking and perfect for a little girl, this book has lots of space for notes all over the place. You might have a tough time fitting pictures into the slots correctly.
5. Pearhead Chevron Baby Photo Album
The Good: Now this is more like it! You can fit up to 200 pictures in this unisex memory book, even if they are 4 x 6!
And to top it all off, there is still a bit of space to record some brief notes next door to the pictures. This will allow you to keep your memories straight in your head, regardless of how much time passes before you look at them again.
The Bad: While you can take some notes near your pictures, there is no dedicated spot for milestones and achievements, which could definitely be a big problem.
The Long and Short of It: You should totally check this memory book out if you are a picture lover like me. It has tons of storage space for photos, but only a small space for note taking.
